I wrote about my 2020 goals this time last year (I mean, that went so well for all of us, right?) I’m hoping, as I’m sure we all are, that 2021 is going to look a bit more ‘normal’ and we’re going to have the freedom to safely get out and about again and do the things we love, at some point this year. With that in mind, I wanted to talk about how my 2020 went in terms of the goals I’d set for myself, and what I want to achieve in 2021.

How did 2020 go?
Well, it was a very mixed bag, in terms of my goals. I wanted to read more, and I managed more than my planned 52 books, which is great. I probably bought at least 100 new books, which is not so great when you look at my next goal, to declutter. I did a bit of that though, I threw out so much stuff when I moved in here, and I’ve only bought things I really needed (apart from books!) I could probably do more but I’d still call it a success.
I did sort my finances, although I don’t have as big a savings pot as I’d planned. I do have SOME savings though, which I’d again call a success, and I am officially debt free other than my mortgage. I’ve spent a lot of money on buying things for the house, and I still have a lot to go, but I’m better than I’ve ever been financially. Hooray!
Being healthier didn’t work, funnily enough. Like most of us it’s been less long walks and more takeaways, working a lot more hours than normal because my job has been crazily busy, and I’m not feeling great in myself as a result. I’ve also had counselling, starting to deal with the abusive relationship and how he treated me, and that lead to some pretty unhealthy food happening too-I eat when I’m stressed. But it’s okay, I got through the year, and I will look at getting healthier going forward.

2021 Goals
Health and Fitness
I’m going to work on my health this year; the typical things like 2 litres of water a day, more fruit and veg and making sure I do some sort of exercise each day. But I also want to work on my mental health. There will absolutely be more therapy for me this year, and I’ll be journalling-it turns out that when I write, I find it soothing, so, I’ll write. It’s things I can’t publish on here, things I’m processing that I wouldn’t want his daughters to read, but that I need to get out of my head.
Personal Development
I’m going to read 100 books this year, compared to the 53 I managed last year. I’ve got into audiobooks, which will help with this too. I’m also going to do 20 minutes of language learning each day, working on Welsh, Spanish and French, because actually I was pretty decent at languages at school and my brain needs the exercise. I’m also planning to start a Photography Diploma.

I’ve got plans for the blog, my Instagram and a second blog I want to start up, and I’ll talk about them later in the year I think, when I’ve actually made some changes and seen some results. Needless to say, I’m excited about these plans.
Travel
I’m hoping to visit 6 new countries this year, likely from the summer onwards, when we’ve had the vaccine rolled out and we’re allowed to move about freely again. I also want to go back to 6 countries I’ve already visited, to explore more of Germany, Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands, Czech Republic and Austria. Imagine the amount of travel content I’ll have if I manage that.
Do you have goals for 2021, or have you decided it’s best to just see what happens given the current circumstances?
