This weekend I got to spend a lovely Sunday afternoon drinking Gin Cocktails in the sun. What’s not to love? It’s not the usual way I spend my time, but my friend had been invited to the Leeds Gin Festival and brought me along as her plus one. Lucky me!
The festival ran from Friday 30th June to Sunday 2nd July and, certainly on the Sunday we went, it was packed. It probably helped that the weather was really hot too. So much sunburn must’ve happened at that festival!
I’m not entirely sure how much tickets were-we got our entry for free, and we also got two drinks tokens. Each token would cost £5 and this gets you a measure of gin, a mixer and a garnish. There were also gin based cocktails for two tokens each (so, £10) though you did have to buy tokens from token booths, you couldn’t pay for drinks at the bar.
When entering the festival you are given a large Fevertree Gin glass. This is your glass to drink from for the entirety of the festival and to take home afterwards, which is cool. We were told that there were different bars serving different types of gin, including a secret bar (which we headed straight for because, hello exclusivity!) We were able to sample a couple of different gins before spending our tokens at the cocktail bar.
We actually only had one drink at the festival-mainly because it was so hot and there was no official seating-we sat on the Town Hall steps which got annoying as people kept sitting on our feet-and we fancied drinks at The Liquorist as well. I did enjoy the festival though and I think I’ll be going again next year-I’ll just dress for the weather so I’m not melting with the heat!
Have you been to a gin festival? What’s your favourite gin?
