It feels like forever ago since we were all obsessed with The Spice Girls, wearing those weird rubber bracelets and platform trainers, our hair in pigtails and practicing our high kicks-or was that just me? It’s pretty weird then that this week everyone I know seems to be spending their evening at the Spice Girls concert I never managed to get to (jealous!) and Walkers have released a new advert featuring everyone’s favourite Girl Band, which you can see below if you haven’t yet.
I’m writing this listening to a 90s Cheese playlist on Spotify living my best life singing along. It turns out I still know all the words to All Saints ‘Never Ever’ although I’m not surprised as my favourite night out is 90s night at our local club, so OBVIOUSLY I’ve been practicing.
Thinking back to my childhood makes me very nostalgic for easier times though, when my only concern was whether I had the right colour body glitter for the school disco and whether my Mum would let us have some pringles in our lunch box in those weird little holders they did-anyone remember those?
I remember reading The Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley High books, being obsessed with SMTV Live, Sister Sister and Sabrina The Teenage Witch (the adult Netflix version I just can’t get my head around) begging my Mum to let me put Sun In in my hair for that ‘been in the sun’ look (which actually was godawful) and wearing hair mascara too to top off the hideousness. I did look for some photos for this post but I’m quite pleased to say I can’t find any-sorry guys!
Now I’m older, I’m far more into 90s Indie music than the cheese I listened to as a kid, although who doesn’t love a little bit of cheese when you’re feeling down? These days I’m bleaching my hair the proper way to dye it pale pink, mascara is just for my lashes-but I’m totally sure I’d still rock that body glitter!
What are your memories of the 90s?
