*Wearing Skirts In The Winter

Fashion isn’t something I cover very often on here, although I love choosing something to wear and I love taking outfit shots for other bloggers through Laura Haley Photography. I wanted to change that though so when Simply Be asked me to write my thoughts about wearing skirts in the winter, I was quite excited to get writing.

Wearing skirts in the winter

When the weather is cold, I have to put away my favourite maxi skirts and sandals and that makes me sad. I’d rather wear a skirt or dress than trousers, especially in the cold, but I do struggle to figure out what to wear with my skirts in the freezing weather. If you do too, the following tips might be helpful to you.

Mix colour with monochrome

I have a favourite black and white stripy pencil skirt. It’s stretchy and so fits me like a glove, and I wear it a lot with a vest top and sandals in warmer weather. In the winter, I’ve started wearing it with a brightly coloured, oversized jumper. This flatters my figure well and is also really comfortable, whilst still being smart and stylish.

Mix prints

With my beloved stripy skirt, I also like to wear leopard print shoes or boots. These add a bit more interest to my outfit and make it look less ‘frumpy office worker’ more ‘fashion blogger’-I WISH I could be mistaken for a fashion blogger though! A girl can dream, right?

Go shorter

I find that my three quarter length grey skirt looks silly with tights and closed shoes, so in winter I switch to shorter, schoolgirl style skirts, usually with a checked pattern or an all over block colour. I add a coloured skirt and black patent heels, alongside a statement necklace and a nice bag-and I’m ready to go. Sometimes a nice blazer finishes the look too.

Wear what you love

My main tip for any outfit is only wear what you love. It doesn’t matter whether it’s in fashion right now or whether other people don’t like it-if you love it, then wear it. There’s nothing more stylish than you looking and feeling happy.
