Since I started travelling solo, my photos from trips have been 99% photos of buildings, street art and beautiful views, and 1% selfies. Even with my gorilla tripod and the self timer on my Olympus Pen, it’s so hard to get a decent photo of myself and I felt like my blog content was suffering for it. So, I started thinking about other ways to make sure I got a decent shot.
Asking strangers in the street is always an option (and I have got some INCREDIBLE shots that way) but for every decent one I have 25 terrible ones, and you’re never quite sure if someone is going to run off with your camera. Plus sometimes the language barrier makes a ‘please frame the shot this way’ conversation impossible, and most people automatically shoot portrait not landscape which I hate.
I do shoots here for other Bloggers (in Leeds and the surrounding area) and I’d already thought it was a shame I couldn’t get someone to shoot photos for me when abroad, so when I spotted professional shoots on Air B n B for a low price (I pay between £30 and £40 for an hours shoot and it’s a business expense anyway) I thought I’d give one a try when in Hamburg.
So far I’ve shot with photographers in Hamburg and Porto and I will absolutely be booking future shoots on any future solo trips, they’re a great way to see a bit of the city, meet a new person and above all, get decent shots for the blog and Instagram.
Have you ever shot with a photographer, either here or abroad? Would you?
