Why I Was Wrong About Majorca

In August, my parents offered to pay for them, me and my brother to go on holiday. OBVIOUSLY I said yes, and requested somewhere in or near a big city so I could explore. My parents tend to always do Spain as a holiday destination, although I would have preferred somewhere I’d not been before-maybe Croatia or Greece or Cyprus. I knew they would choose Spain though and so requested somewhere near Barcelona, ideally, or maybe Madrid. I said if she was just choosing a generic holiday resort, where I’d be stuck poolside for a week (not at all my thing) then I’d rather stay at home and not use the last week of my holiday from work. And then I headed upstairs to do some work.

Fast forward to a few hours later, when Mum came into my room and announced she’d booked…Majorca. I’ll admit, I was disappointed. Majorca seems like a very quiet, sleepy island with nothing to do-apart from Magaluf which doesn’t have a very good reputation. I went onto Twitter and had a little moan about it and was soon tweeted by Katy, who explained Majorca is her island, where she’s from. She linked me to some of her posts about things to do and she also put me in touch with Cristina. This was the start of my falling in love with the island.

Cristina lives in Palma and we arranged to meet up for the day so she could show me around. Thanks to her brilliant tour of the City, I felt comfortable enough to head back for a second day on my own. I took a ton of photos and wanted to show you just a few in this post-maybe it’ll make you understand why I fell in love.

I am about to book a long weekend back to Palma for the end of March-expect a further Majorca post when I do, with a list of things I’d recommend you do on the Island. My first trip was a very lazy one, due to some health issues-and so I didn’t do nearly as much exploring as I wanted to, and don’t have enough to write a full on post for you yet. Boo! (Although great excuse to go back!)

Majorca, I was wrong. I’ll be back, very soon.

Have you ever been to Palma, or Majorca in general? What did you think?

I was totally wowed by Majorca after a chance visit on a cruise.
I’ve been back since and absolutely love it as well! 🙂

I’m glad you loved it so much. It’s a lovely place. I’ve got cousins who live there and I’ve been a few times!

I had the same impression as you. Majorca was the first really holiday I went on and I was super reluctant as the only people I knew who went were people who liked to sit around and do absolutely nothing. And when I first went I did go with the wrong people and that is exactly what we did – I hated it, but did think Majorca was very pretty. I returned a couple of years ago with a better choice of people and had a great time, and I’d happily go back!

This is how I was about Benidorm. There was loads more to do than I thought.

I have to admit that my only experience of Majorca was a teenage boozy trip to Magaluf (which won’t be repeated!) It’s lovely when you see an unexpected side to a place and discover a love for it.

I absolutely love the Balearic Islands. We often go to Menorca (whish is reeeally quiet!) but I just love that you can fly for just over 2 hours, and arrive in a total paradise.

I’m glad that you were surprised by the destination. I have been to Majorca and we had a lovely holiday but we were in a very tourist part, but I would love to explore Palma

I haven’t visited any of these cities but would love to. Visited Barcelona some years ago. Loved it.
