I’m writing this from Manchester airport departure lounge, waiting for a solo flight to Cologne. In the last 10 days I’ve flown three times including this morning and so I’ve built up quite a level of annoyance directed at other people also in the airport. It felt like a good post to write-not that serious, but if you’re reading this and you do these things-maybe stop, yeah?
Lets get into the many annoying things people do in airports. Grab a drink and roll your eyes along with me as you read.

Walking three abreast on a narrow path
No, don’t worry group of three people. No one else wants to walk any faster than your snails pace to the gate. We’re all happy to just trundle along slowly behind you, we don’t want to get past. No one is ever worried they might miss their flight, or needing a wee.
Waiting for someone in the middle of a walkway
Oh yes, the middle of that path is the best place to wait for your loved one. Never mind anyone else, no one else should be able to move freely whilst you wait. Please do make sure your suitcase is just far enough away from you that no one can get past it, or between you and it, too.

Taking up three chairs for one person
Oh totally, your suitcase and your coat need a chair, each. They can’t possibly go on the floor so another two people can sit down. All of these people stood around, especially those who are elderly, pregnant, have children or have an invisible illness, would much rather stand.

Not looking where they’re going, and falling over your suitcase
Sure, Steve, I’ve been stood in this queue behind you for the last 10 minutes, but you definitely shouldn’t have expected me to be there. With a suitcase. In an airport. I totally don’t mind that you’ve just knocked my bag over.

Failing to sort their bags for security
It’s been, what, 25 years since we’ve had the increased security of liquids under 100ml, all electronics out of your bags etc. So I don’t really expect that people should know this, because why would they read any of the signs in the queue, why would they get their liquids out in the queue like the rest of us, when they could instead hold up the queue when they’re at the very front, rooting through their tshirts and pants to find 17 liquids, most of which are too big, and then act shocked when they need a bag.

Not people, but machines….
A special mention to the security scanners, that have today put my bag into the very long second check queue, only for me to get to the front and them to say ‘oh, the scanners didn’t scan, we’ll pop it back through’ FFS machines!

As much as airports wind me up in many ways, I’m so glad I’m able to travel and the little pains are worth the trips for sure.
