Santorini Bar and Grill Headingley Review

June 22, 2023 Leave a Comment

I used to do a lot of food reviews on Inside Laura’s Head, especially when eating out in Leeds, and then the pandemic stopped us all eating out, so I stopped doing reviews. Now I do regular date nights with J, it’s a great excuse to try new places and share those with my readers, so food reviews are back! This one is somewhere we’d been meaning to try for a while-Santorini Bar and Grill, Headingley.

We went for date night last week, whilst housesitting, because we were within walking distance. This meant I could have a couple of drinks, so I took advantage.

The menu

Santorini Bar and Grill Headingley is a Greek Turkish restaurant with an attached Gin Bar. Expect a varied menu with plenty of drinks to choose from too, with a good selection of smaller plates and veggie options. I was really impressed at how many different dishes they had.

The decor

The place is beautiful, with neon signs and pretty pink trees. When we arrived it was hot, so the doors were open into the street and it really had that ‘I’m on holiday’ feeling. I’m not sure it’d feel the same in the pouring rain, but we popped in for a drink in December and it was still nice then.

What did we have?

We went for Halloumi as a starter, which we shared. As usual with me and cheese, I could have happily eaten it all to myself-it was perfectly cooked, and the salsa that came with it was good too-not too spicy, but added a bit of a twist to the cheese.

I ordered the Spicy Chicken as my main, which came with skin on chips. Anything to do with potato is a winner in my eyes and the chips were good, the portion was too big for me to finish though, not that that’s a bad thing! The chicken, a large two piece portion was really well flavoured, not too spicy-I don’t like anything too hot so this was bang on. J had the Moussaka which again was a decent sized portion, with plenty of lamb. He really enjoyed the rice it came with too.

We split sorbet for dessert, choosing a scoop of lemon (really refreshing) and a scoop of raspberry. You can’t go wrong with sorbet in my opinion and we really enjoyed this.

I had a cocktail (in a pink bathtub instead of a glass, because I’m ridiculous) and J had their own beer, which he said was really good. My cocktail was light and fizzy and delicious, and I could’ve drank three of them.

Was it expensive?

The meal, with two mains, two drinks, a starter and a dessert, cost £65. It felt really reasonable for a treat/date night meal that we really enjoyed, and there was definitely enough food for the price.

I’d highly recommend Santorini Bar and Grill Headingley if you’re in the Leeds area and fancy Greek/Turkish for a treat, we’ll definitely be back.
