It’s been a hot minute since I could say I was actively blogging, hasn’t it! The pandemic, and then the last year, haven’t been very kind to me and as well as not travelling, my mental health has suffered due to some work stuff. Things are a lot better now thanks to some changes I needed to make and after two weeks of really starting 2022 with a bang, I realised I wanted to write. Like, really wanted to write. I’ve sat down and done a broken link check, shared a bit of my older content, written a list of posts I fancy writing, and I’m back, baby. At least I think I am. I want to be, so let’s say I am. The proof is in the pudding, as they say, so keep an eye out for regular content again now.

It makes sense for my first post to talk about what I’m hoping for, in 2022, for my little corner of the internet. I’m a big believer in speaking things into existence, if you talk about it you’re more likely to make it happen, so that’s what I’m going to do. I have three main plans; revamp old content, write up my pandemic trips, and cover 22 new destinations for 2022.
Revamping old content is going to be the most difficult part, as I have SO many old posts on here. But I want to make sure that older content is still useful, that it still serves a purpose and helps my readers. It might be that I add to a post, remove outdated information or even remove a post fully, if say it’s reviewing a place that no longer exists. I need to make sure all my older content is properly SEO optimized so that if someone’s searching for that destination online, they’re more likely to find me, and I need to make sure that if you’ve enjoyed a post, you can easily find similar ones too. If you’ve enjoyed my post on Prague because you’re planning a trip, it might be that you’d also like to read about Vienna, as it’s just a short journey away. I want to shout more about the successful collaborations I’ve had too, like my Berlin posts where I worked with Visit Berlin, so that I can look for more collaborative work going forward.
Writing up my pandemic trips should be a fair bit easier, as I made notes on a lot of them as I was on the trip. My travel has all been UK, I’ve got Brighton, Bristol, Cornwall and a couple of other places I visited in 2021 to write up and, as usual for me, loads of photos. UK travel isn’t my usual sort of content but I know it will be popular and I’m excited to try something a bit different, so watch out for that.
22 new destinations in 2022 sounds like a massive job, doesn’t it? I’m not expecting to fly to 22 different countries during a pandemic (although I would like 6, because my 40 before 40 plan has seriously stalled) so I’m thinking of some local content, places like Harrogate, Knaresborough, York, Leeds and Manchester, as well as some further away UK content. I’d also like to explore Newcastle, Birmingham, and some other cities I’ll decide nearer the time. I can fit a lot more UK content in as I’ll only need a couple of days annual leave for a new city if I’m not needing to fly.
I’m sure as I go along I’ll think of more improvements I want to make, I already know I want to add in alternative travel themed content, like travel programmes I’ve enjoyed, travel books I loved, the kit I take when I travel and how I organise trips, so that the blog is not just ‘here’s a trip I went on’ all the time. I love those posts, don’t get me wrong, but it’s nice to add in different things. Ultimately, I’d like a post a week from now on, and lets hope that happens.
So, yeah. Hello readers. I’ve missed you!
