A few weeks ago (bad blogger!) I was invited to The Alchemist in Trinity Leeds to try their new menu and have a look at their refurb. Laura likes food, so obviously I said yes-and I brought my Mum along with me because she appreciates anything I can take her to where she gets a freebie.
We chose a table near the kitchen as I like to watch people mill about cooking, and spent ages deciding which cocktail we wanted from the vast menu-there’s a reason The Alchemist is known for its’ cocktails and the varied menu of delicious, quirky drinks is it.
The new decor is gorgeous-lots of copper, grey and terracotta, and black glasses. It feels really luxurious, and there’s lots of room so you’re not squashed up against the next table. You have the option to sit outside on the balcony too, under heaters.
The food menu has a fair few different options, we went for the Fillet Steak (Mum) and the Fish and Chips (me) as we were in the mood for something simple. Simple, but well done, is what we got.
Foodwise our portions were a decent size and the steak was cooked to perfection. There was plenty of fish, my only complaint is I wish the dish came with mushy peas not garden peas. We were too full to even think about dessert, sadly! Prices were reasonable if a little pricy, at £11.50 for Fish and Chips and £12.50 for the 5oz Steak-however part of the appeal of The Alchemist is the luxury feel and so I don’t think the prices are bad for that.
Cocktails wise we eventually decide on a Key Lime Pie (Mum) and a Screwball (Me) priced at £8 and £8.75. Again a little more pricey than drinks in some places, but The Alchemist is always our first stop on a night out for a drink or two and the prices are fine, we just couldn’t drink there all night.
Staff at The Alchemist Trinity Leeds couldn’t have been better, and they deserve a mention for how well they handled my original booking not being made correctly by the agency-they really impressed me by how quickly they resolved the issue for us.

I love the Alchemist, though I haven’t been since they had their refurb. I’ve not tried anything on the menu that I haven’t liked! I’ll have to have another visit to see what the new menu is like!
