Visiting Gods Own Junkyard, Walthamstow

March 15, 2024 Comment : 1

Anyone who knows me well knows I looove colour, neon lights and anything a bit wacky, so the first time I spotted an Instagram post where someone had visited Gods Own Junkyard, I knew I wanted to go. Unfortunately, they’re in London (Walthamstow) and I’m in Yorkshire (Leeds) so it was never a place I could just pop to for an hour, and going all the way to London just to see some lights felt silly. So I admired it from afar for years and years. No visiting Gods Own Junkyard for Laura 🙁

Then J asked if I wanted to go to London to see his favourite band, Los Campensinos!, and obviously I did. Because I was driving us down there and back, a day after landing home from Hong Kong, just for his gig (we missed out on Leeds tickets) he said he was happy for me to plan what we did with the rest of our weekend, and so I realised I would finally, FINALLY be visiting Gods Own Junkyard for myself.

When you’re visiting, it’s important to know you can’t park in the yard outside, but you can park for free on the streets around the corner so have a drive around. If you’re coming without a car, it’s a short walk from Walthamstow Central.

There’s no fee to enter, but there is a cafe and if you’re trying to support them, you’d be best to enjoy a coffee in the amazing surroundings. There’s also a small shop selling a few different things, and if you really love neon, you can buy some of the lights they have for sale too.

Visiting Gods Own Junkyard is amazing, but it’s not somewhere for full on photoshoots, and proper cameras aren’t allowed. You can use your phone, for personal and social media use, but nothing commercial, which is fair enough. I got permission to use my shots for this post. If you want to shoot commercially there you can contact them to hire the place out, and you can even use them as a wedding venue! I would love to see the photos from a wedding here.

Have you visited Gods Own Junkyard? What’s your favourite neon sign from my photos?

Woah!!! What a colourful and bright post. If you love neon lights, you should travel to Kuala Lumpur. You can see beautiful lights there.
