Inside Laura's Head

Seeing the world on a budget, with limited annual leave

Blogging

11 years of Inside Laura’s Head

August 31, 2025 Leave a Comment

It is wild to me that I’ve stuck to anything for 11 years, let alone something I’ve found frustrating and difficult at times, but today is 11 years of my little corner of the internet and against all odds, I’m still here. I couldn’t let an anniversary go by without a celebration so I wanted to talk about the last year, since I shared my ten years of Inside Laura’s Head post, and my plan for the next year too.

On last years post I talked about how I’d visited 26 new countries since starting the blog and how I hoped to have hit number 37 of my 40 before 40, by the end of 2024. This didn’t quite happen, but at the point of writing this I’ve visited 35, with 36 and 37 (Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia) happening in three and a half weeks time.

Last year I launched my newsletter, which I was super excited about but hadn’t really planned well. I did a couple of editions and then stalled, which can often happen with me and new ideas (hello ADHD brain and it’s dopamine hits) but I still do love the IDEA of a newsletter, I just need to make it something that adds value for my readers and is fun for me to write. It’ll be back, I promise, I’m just not sure when.

I talked about doing some more destination guides like my complete guide to Gdansk, because readers were (and still are) loving that post. I’ve actually only managed one more, my complete guide to Porto, but there are a few more in the works-complete guides take a lot of time, research and photo sorting, and I need to feel I know a city well enough to do it justice.

I haven’t actually written all that much in the past year, being honest I’ve had some personal stuff going on that’s meant I haven’t had the headspace for blogging as often as I’d like. I did get some Marrakech and some Hong Kong content up that I’m super excited about, so if you’ve not read these posts, please do! Everything you need to know if you’re visiting Marrakech / A Marrakech photo diary / How much did we spend during a week in Marrakech / A Hong Kong photo diary / My experience of Hong Kong / Visiting the Big Buddha

I’ve got an interesting 2025 round up post in the works (which, for obvious reasons, will be posted in 4 months time, on 31st December 2025!) where I’m sharing exactly how much I’ve spent in a year on travel, because I’m asked this all the time. I have some ’48 hours in’ posts to finish for previous trips that’ll be up soon, and I’m going to take the pressure off myself, focusing on quality, not quantity, for the coming 12 months. Expect three posts a month, on the 2nd, 12th and 22nd of each month, rather than aiming for weekly and trying to produce four or five. I will get some complete guides finished, the ’48 hours in’ posts I’m halfway through, but also some new content I’ve not posted before. I’d love to see how different things go down with readers. I’ll also be better (honest!) at prompting my writing too-I do so much better when I share my links in the right places.

Sticking to something for so long is such a massive achievement, and I’m off to raise a glass to eleven years of Inside Laura’s Head. Cheers!
